Workshops

We organise a range of teaching workshops each year.  By subsidising these from our membership income we are able to employ professional tutors and keep fees low for participants.  Subjects covered so far are lichen identification, bryophyte identification, fungus identification, woodland archaeology and molluscs; and we are currently making plans for one on managing small woodlands for timber production.

Workshops on lichen identification and bryophyte identification are held annually.  These are suitable for all, from complete beginners to those wishing to expand their existing knowledge.

Tree Coring Workshops were held at Roslin, Midlothian on 21 May and 16 June 2010.  As a result the NWDG now includes 13 members trained in this technique.  The 'Coring Group' page on this website gives support to trained individuals and information for the use of NWDG members.

WORKSHOPS TO BE HELD IN 2011

The Bryophyte Workshop will be held from 21-23 October 2011 based in Broadford, Isle of Skye.  The tutor will be Ben Averis.  This workshop is now fully booked, but please contact Ben if you would like to be on the reserve list in case of cancellations.

NWDG workshops are for NWDG members: non-members wishing to attend are required to join the group first.  Please click on the 'Join Us' page to download a membership form.
