The Native Woodlands Discussion Group brings people together to explore, learn about, and celebrate native woodlands. Throughout the year we organise a programme of events that offers opportunities to visit inspiring woodland sites, share knowledge, and connect with others who are passionate about woodland management, conservation, research, and history.
Whether you’re a woodland owner, manager, forester, ecologist, researcher, student, or simply have an interest in native woodlands, our events are a great way to learn from experts, exchange ideas, and enjoy time in the woods.
NWDG events are exclusively for members. Becoming a member gives you access to our programme of field visits, workshops, and other activities, as well as the opportunity to become part of a welcoming network of people committed to the future of native woodlands. One-day Field Events
Our programme of one-day field events takes members to a variety of native woodlands across the country. These visits explore woodland management, restoration, ecology, history, and current challenges through guided walks, discussions, and practical examples in the field.
They are an excellent opportunity to see different approaches in action, ask questions, and share experiences with fellow members.

Workshops
Our workshops offer the chance to explore specific topics in greater depth over one or two days. Many are developed in response to suggestions from members and combine practical learning with discussion and networking.

Woodland History
Woodland history remains an important part of NWDG’s work. Our Woodland History Conferences brought together leading speakers and members to explore how the past can inform the future management of native woodlands.
We’re exploring opportunities to reintroduce woodland history events in the future. In the meantime, you can browse the History Archive to download the proceedings from previous conferences.
Other Woodland Events
We also promote events organised by individual members, partner organisations, and local woodland groups. From guided walks and talks to training courses and conferences, there’s always something happening within the native woodland community. We usually post this information on our community Facebook page.
