NWDG newsletters are sent twice a year to every member. They have been produced since 1974 and are an invaluable record of our discussions and activities, and cover many topics not addressed in other publications. Reports of our excursions, workshops, conferences and other events appear regularly and are eagerly read. We publish articles from other woodland organisations, book reviews, and accounts of visits to woods in other parts of the world.

Updates for 2026
After a period of change within the committee, we’re pleased to announce that the Native Woodland Discussion Group newsletter is back.
It’s been a little while since our last edition while the committee has been settling into new roles, but we’re excited to get the newsletter up and running again. As we relaunch, we’ll also be introducing some fresh ideas, including a refreshed design, a more visual style and wider distribution to help us share members’ knowledge and experiences with an even larger audience.
The newsletter has always been one of the best ways for members to learn from one another, and we’d love to build on that tradition.
Our plans
🌿 Summer 2026 Relaunch Issue
We’ll be producing a shorter summer edition in mid-August, celebrating recent field visits and woodland news while showcasing the refreshed look of the newsletter.
🌿 Autumn/Winter 2026 Issue
We’ll then return to a fuller edition later in the year, with a copy deadline of 31 October and publication planned for late November.
We’d love your contributions
Whether you’ve recently visited an inspiring woodland, completed an interesting management project, discovered something unusual on a woodland walk or simply taken a photograph you’d like to share, we’d love to hear from you.
Contributions can include:
- Reports from field visits or events
- Woodland management experiences
- Research and project updates
- News from your local area
- Book reviews
- Photographs
- Artwork and sketches
- Wildlife observations
- Short notes or reflections from the woods
You don’t need to write a lengthy article, short pieces, photographs and observations are every bit as valuable.
If you’d like to contribute to the Summer Relaunch Issue, we’d be grateful if you could send material over the next few weeks ideally before 31 July. We’ll then continue collecting content for the Autumn/Winter edition ahead of the 31 October deadline.
